Samantha Bates - Clinical Research Nurse Manager, Western Health
GUEST SPEAKER - Samantha Bates is the Critical Care Research Nurse Manager at Western Health. She manages a team of dedicated clinical research nurses who facilitate and coordinate research projects across the Departments of Intensive Care, Cardiology, Anaesthesia, Pain & Perioperative Medicine. She has an extensive clinical background in intensive care nursing, and has been coordinating research trials for over 20 years. Sam has worked on a variety of research projects from small investigator-initiated projects, device innovation projects, healthcare sustainability projects, as well as international, sponsored industry trials. In particular she has collaborated on many large investigator initiated clinical trial network studies, many of which have been influential, landmark trials in critical care.

Gemma Barker - Research Nurse, Clinical Trials Platform, SAHMRI
GUEST SPEAKER - Gemma Barker is a dedicated Research Nurse with the Clinical Trials Platform at SAHMRI. She is a Registered Nurse and holds an Advanced Diploma in Mental Health Nursing. Gemma completed the PRAXIS Clinical Trial Coordinator Internship Program, further strengthening her expertise in clinical research. Gemma is highly skilled in participant engagement, ensuring compassionate and effective patient interactions throughout the research process.

Alicia Baird - Research Ethics and Regulatory Officer with the University of the Sunshine Coast
GUEST SPEAKER - Alicia is a registered nurse and clinical research professional with experience in stroke/neurology, general medicine, oncology, and palliative care. She launched her clinical trials career through an immersive PRAXIS program in 2023, securing a permanent role. Currently, Alicia serves as a Research Ethics and Regulatory Officer at the University of the Sunshine Coast and contributes to patient partnership initiatives.
