LIVE VIRTUAL WORKSHOP
AI in Action: Transforming Research and Clinical Trials
“Excellent presenter with depth of knowledge. Complicated ever-changing topic presented in a coherent and effective format…very hands-on and practical.” – Barbara Bazarnik – Clinical Trial Manager, University of Sydney
“Very high quality” – Paul Bennett, Researcher, NSW Health
“This was a highly valuable workshop. It will change the way I approach using LLMs for our clinical trial tasks” – Helen Nguyen, Clinical Research Associate, Wesley Research
With artificial intelligence increasingly becoming part of research environments, understanding how to use these tools effectively and ethically has become essential for everyone working in clinical trials and research ethics.
This engaging 4-hour workshop introduces AI as a textual tool rather than a technical challenge. We focus on practical, everyday applications that can enhance your work while ensuring ethical use and maintaining research integrity.
Unlike technical AI courses, our workshop approaches AI from a humanities perspective – focusing on how these tools work with language, documents, and communication. You’ll gain hands-on experience with AI tools specifically relevant to clinical research and ethics applications.
This workshop offers a Language-Based Approach to AI.
Skip the technical jargon and focuses on how AI interacts with language and documents—areas you’re already familiar with in research. No coding, just practical, text-based learning.
You can claim 4 CPD points on completion of the workshop.
This workshop is perfect for:
- Clinical Trial Coordinators
- Research Administrators, Researchers and Investigators
- HREC Executive Officers and Committee Members
- Research Governance & Integrity Officers
- Research Managers and Coordinators
- Quality and Compliance Personnel
What You'll Gain from This Workshop
This workshop is perfect for researchers, ethics officers, and support staff who work with research documentation and need to harness AI without diving into code. You’ll benefit by:
Demystifying AI Language Tools
- Grasp the fundamentals of AI in clear, jargon-free terms. Understand key concepts like context windows and prompt types.
Mastering the Art of AI Prompting
- Learn to craft effective prompts that transform complex research into plain language. Apply these skills to tasks like preparing HREC applications.
Navigating AI‘s Quirks
- Recognise how AI can “confabulate” or make errors. Develop strategies to minimise and manage these inaccuracies.
Choosing the Right AI Model
- Compare various AI models to find the best fit for your research needs. Make informed decisions based on model capabilities and limitations.
Understanding Ethics
- Evaluate terms of service for different AI tools. Ensure ethical use of AI in your research, emphasising transparency and disclosure.
Automating Document Analysis
- Learn to extract relevant information from research documents efficiently. Begin automating basic document analysis to save time and reduce errors.
Use AI Effectively
- Build a culture of effective AI use within your research team or organisation. Stay updated with the latest research to continuously improve AI integration.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll participate in hands-on activities that allow you to practice these skills, compare different approaches, and build confidence in using AI as a practical tool in your work.
Why you'll benefit:
- You learn by doing, using language skills you already have
- You build real confidence in AI prompt crafting and tool use
- You gain clarity on privacy and ethical considerations in AI use
- You leave with resources to keep improving on your own
