This article reveals some critical areas for learning for Australia’s #clinicaltrials sector and our public funders, and calls out a lack of coordinated and strategically planned response to the #Covid19 pandemic.

As a result we have too many studies, with abysmally low #recruitment numbers (if the data is correct) and a lack of meaningful data to help us learn from the #pandemic.

It points to the issues that continue to constrain us: a lack of national coordination in this country (like the UK model), a paucity of public awareness about the role of clinical trials and a governance system that must be improved.

There are so many things to celebrate about our strong and high quality clinical trials sector, but now is the time to address our areas of weakness and bring long awaited change.
